  • The Present

As computers have become more prevalent, many organizations have transitioned to using spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel. This shift allows for more organized data storage and easier management of records. Excel spreadsheets enables users to sort, filter, and search through data more efficiently than paper records. However, despite these improvements, managing backflow data with Excel still requires considerable manual effort and is not without its challenges, such as data entry errors and difficulties in maintaining up-to-date records across multiple managers, towns, etc.

  • The Past

Backflow management programs have evolved significantly over the years, following advancements in technology and with more counties closely regulating their devices. Initially, municipalities and water authorities tracked backflow incidents and device inspections using paper-based systems. These systems involved logging upcoming inspections, test passes or fails, and maintenance records all by hand, in physical files. While it worked for the time, this method was labor-intensive, prone to errors, and exponentially more difficult to manage as the volume of data grew.
